Peery Cemetery

     On November 1, 2008 the BDPS team investigated the Peery Cemetery located in Tazewell, Virginia. I decided to use two team members Robyn, John and myself on this investigation due to the small size of this cemetery. Robyn investigated to see if they were any family members still alive so we may get permission to do the investigation. The history of this very old cemetery she uncovered was there are no surviving family members. A lawyer, who has asked to remain anonymous, told her the last family member to be buried left a trust fund for the upkeep of the cemetery and that was all the information available on the Peery Cemetery. We started our investigation around 6:00 p.m. and finished around 9:00 p.m. The reason for the short time of investigation was due to the fact that there are many homes and businesses in the surrounding area and we were asked to only investigate between these hours.  

     Equipment used at this site included (3) DVR’s, (2) Microcassette Recorders, (1) Camcorder, and (2) digital cameras. As we try to do in all of our investigations we placed the DVR’s in areas that covered the entire cemetery. The camcorder was placed in an area that covered most of the cemetery. The microcassette recorders were held by me and Robyn. We split up individually, in most cases this is against our rules but due to the fact that the cemetery is so small we were always within 10 to 20 feet from each other. I felt that each one of us was safe and within seconds from one another in case of an emergency while we investigated the cemetery doing our EVP’s (electronic voice phenomenon) and taking photos.

     While conducting our investigation Robyn explained to me that she was having feelings of being at peace, like she didn’t have a worry in the world. As she was explaining this to me John also said he felt at peace.  

     We were able to obtain some of evidence of paranormal activity in the form of EVP’s (electronic voice phenomenon) with one of the microcassette recorders, all three of the DVR’s (Digital Voice Recorder), photos containing orbs and mist, and one unexplained photo that looks like a face in the background that is glowing orange red.

     The investigation of the Peery Cemetery was a success due to the fact that we got 6 EVP’s (electronic voice phenomenon). Out of these there is a voice saying “Shhhh” recorded on all 3 DVR’s, the camcorder and also on 1 of the microcassette recorders that is very clear. We also got photos of different sizes and different colored orbs, an unexplained face and unexplained mist.   

We heard the following EVP’s (electronic voice phenomenon):

1)      “Shhhh”

2)      Whistling

3)      (Male Voice) “Hell No”

4)      “Hello”

5)      Whispering “Steve”

6)       (Female Voice) “Hey”

     We have come to the conclusion that this cemetery has a very low rate of paranormal activity in the form of EVP’s and orb activity. Our hope is to one day to come back to investigate this cemetery again with more advanced equipment.

     This was our sixth investigation and it was a success. We have been very fortunate to have captured such great evidence. I feel honored to have had the success we’ve had.
